Marooned in Mexico

Our plane change in Mexico City has turned into an indefinite layover. On the upside, it’s warm and sunny, and they’ve got some great tacos here. Side note: AeroMexico is the worst airline. Ever.

On Our Way to the USA

Monday, January 31st, 2011

We’re about to board a plane to Mexico City, and then hopefully onto Chicago although we might be in for a hard slog with the “Multi-Day Dangerous, Destructive Winter Storm” on the horizon. It might be one last adventure!

San Pedro de Atacama: An Awful, Awful Place

Friday, January 28th, 2011

In San Pedro de Atacama the customs officer takes your friend Victor’s passport because of a few cloves of garlic in his bag, the ATM steals your favorite card and then, adding insult to injury, charges you $7 for the transaction. There are no supermarkets and the restaurants are expensive, e.g. you order mushroom risotto and they bring a small bowl of rice with a few mushrooms and charge you $10. The sky is too cloudy for the star tour you were really looking forward to, and neither the bank nor the police have any inclination to help retrieve that lost ATM card. San Pedro de Atacama: stay away.
